RRaw Homework: Political and Street Art

The Street Art in the area that I've been raised in have always interested me, i have always wondered what the artists inspirations were. One that i vividly remember was the "Biggie Smalls" piece that was stencilled at the local park. Still till this day i wonder why they put that there. At the time, Hip Hop and Rap was very common in the teens, but i still haven't figured it out. Maybe they were encouraging locals to listen to his music? il never know. Ive seen many different artists create walls of art at the local shops, i bet now there are layers and layers of spray paint. This made me proud to be local because the works where so beautiful and tricky to read, because it was actually what we call Graffiti. Some times they would spray paint pictures of flowers, women with beautiful hair, green monsters, robots and more. And to this day i never actually figured out a storey behind these works.

In the Pacific Community things such as diabetes, obesity, and other health problem are a major issue that i think are affecting my community. Its not so much what they want me to say, more what they need to hear. A wake up call. My audience would be the pacific islanders that are in danger of regretful diseases that can be prevented. My art techniques would involve things such as bold text and images that would give my audience an idea of there ideal future if they aren't cautious. Images like a morgue or pictures of statistics of the Pacific Islanders death rates due to diabetes, obesity, and other health problems. Other images such comparing styled images for example a chicken salad and its fat and sugar content compared to a quarter pack from KFC. Id use quotes from current famous people who have suffered consequences from eating unhealthy eating habits. I would put this type of Art near takeaways and popular food places. I believe that political art does have a place in my life because the messages that i receive from it are very powerful,

I really like the line that the flour has created

From the whole experiment i like this one in particular, not because of Peka's facials, but the direction of the flour i like how its shooting up into the air and it begins to look like smoke

I like that the flour covers my face

This picture almost looks like i was throwing something solid into the air then it evaporates

I like the shape of the cloud of flour

RRAw (Cassandra Barnett) Manifesto (Kris, Elisapeta, Josephine)

Gender Equality
We believe that women should not be displayed as inferior or superior
We don't understand why men should get paid more wages for the same quality of work as women
We feel that women and men should wrk together to make a better future
Equality is having equal rights where a women combats against discrimination driven from a man in the responsibility of maintaining these rights
Gender equality is a human issue, it affects us all
Love is love

My ideas : CANCER

My ideas that i can up with for possible pages:

1. I wanted to identify the common cancers that affect people from around the world
- a collage of mannequins with gaps or crosses or an 'x' on the areas that are affected by cancer
2. Find a way to incorporate the ribbons i.e the Pink and Blue ribbon. Cut out some stencils of ribbons and over lap them on a big canvas, use different colours to represent the different cancers
3. Get pictures of people that have suffered from cancer and paint or photoshop hair on them
4. Take a picture of different wigs, real hair and fake hair, use that as texture
5. Paint a series of pictures of what happens to the cells when cancer is occurring, then i could photocopy that and put some writing over it
6. My own interpretation of cancer, how i feel about, also other people in my class' interpretation of cancer

Core Skills (Rebecca Hobbs) Lens : More Research

These are photos from the internet that i have selected basically for the variation of colours that the photographers have used.

Flour Girl, The Works Studio
This photo looks like its a silvery gold colour or Sepia

I watched this on one of the tutorials that i have linked in previous researches, and the photographer used the gradient tool in Photoshop to change the colour of the flour

Flour me, Richard Vantielcke, 17/07/2011
I chose this photo because the photographer chose a white background, which is slightly camouflaged into the flour of the models face but you can still tell that it is a face

Luco Pierro, 100 Self Portraits, 2010-2014
This photo really interested me because of the shapes that the contrast of the flour and the black background of the room gives the viewer, in this photo i can see a persons face but then i almost see a skeleton from the eyes, cheek bone, and the nose.

I particularly like this image because it has a kind of smokey look and it also has sharp edges.

This image is interesting to me because it has a pacific island touch, with the flower and the different colours

I like this image because of it symmetry and the different scaled triangles, and the merged human skull that is hard to see. i really liked this image

Core Skills (Francess Hansen) Lens: Stencil Artist

From experience, Vincent Michael
i particularly like this stencil artist because i like the detail and the layers that he used. The combination and the contrast of the bright yellow and bright pink really stand out against the dark fore ground. I think he may have used a collage of magazine pictures and 4 similar stencils.

First impressions of this images was that it was creepy, but i think the photoshop of the flowers onto the person was done very well, but i found that the photoshopped flowers on the black background quite weird because its just sitting in mid air especially the purple flower in the top far left corner
This image was very interesting because i can see three different images that were photoshopped together pretty well

I personally like this image because for one its different and it pretty new to me. I like the idea of over laying different silhouettes from different textured materials and putting them on top of each other
